Scholarship & Grant Program
The Trust's Scholarship Program was established to provide assistance to Members who wish to advance their skills in the area of risk management. Scholarship winners are eligible to attend national or regional risk management seminars, safety workshops and other related training programs that broaden their understanding of governmental risk management.

Scholarship Program Guidelines
(September, 1997)
I. PURPOSE

The Trust Scholarship Program is developed to provide assistance to Members of The Trust who wish to advance their skills in the area of risk management. Scholarship winners will be eligible to attend risk management seminars, safety workshops, or other related training programs that would broaden their understanding of governmental risk management.

II. SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

The Trust will award no more than five (5) scholarships per fiscal year. Each scholarship will have a maximum award of $2,000.00.

III. ELIGIBILITY

All Trust Members are eligible to participate.

IV. APPLICATION GUIDELINES

  • In order to be eligible for the Scholarship Program, a completed application must be submitted to Brian T. Ahern, Loss Prevention Manager, at The Trust. (See attached.)
  • A one page summary, to be completed by applicant, must be submitted on why he/she feels attending a risk management seminar will help applicant perform his/her job duties in a more professional manner.
  • A written recommendation from your current supervisor/manager to be attached to the application.
  • Application to be signed by City/Town/School official and mailed to: Brian T. Ahern, Loss Prevention Manager Rhode Island Interlocal Risk Management Trust 501 Wampanoag Trail, Suite 301 East Providence, RI 02915
  • Trust will limit one (1) scholarship winner per entity.
  • Scholarship will cover the cost of the seminar, transportation, hotel accommodations, and meals.
  • Scholarship winners will be determined by a committee composed of the Chairman of the Risk Management Committee, Loss Prevention Manager, and Health and Safety Coordinator.
  • Winners will be notified in writing. All awards are final.

Safety Enhancement Grant Program
The Trust Safety Enhancement Grant Program provides financial incentives to Members interested in purchasing safety equipment or services that would assist in reducing the frequency and severity of claims.

2005 Trust Safety Enhancement Program Guidelines
September, 1997)
I. PURPOSE
The Trust Safety Enhancement Grant Program is developed to provide financial incentives to Members who are interested in purchasing safety equipment or safety services to help reduce the frequency and severity of claims.
II. GRANT AWARDS
The Trust will award no more than five (5) grants for either safety equipment or safety services per fiscal year. Each grant will have a maximum award of $1,000. Grant monies must be utilized for the approved purchases of safety related equipment or services.
To encourage Member involvement grants may be used to augment financial support that Member is providing for particular safety equipment or safety service.
Personal protective equipment is excluded from this award program.
III. ELIGIBILITY
All Trust Members are eligible to participate.
IV. APPLICATION GUIDELINES

  • A completed application must be submitted to Loss Prevention Manager at The Trust. Applications must be received at The Trust Office no later than December 16, 2005.
  • Winners will be announced at The Trust's Annual Meeting in January.
  • Provide a description of the safety equipment or service requested and cost.
  • Explain why this particular equipment or service is needed.
  • A brief summation must be completed on how the safety equipment or service will aid in reducing the frequency and severity of claims for your entity.
  • Application must be signed by City/Town/School official and forwarded to The Trust.
  • The Trust will limit one (1) grant winner per entity.
  • Applications will be awarded by The Trust's Loss Prevention Department.
  • Awards will be based on the perceived severity of the safety issue addressed.
  • All grant awards are final.

Judicial Fairness for Rhode Island

Public Sector Coalition Planned to Champion Legislative Change

Acting as a catalyst for legislative change among Rhode Island public sector entities, The Trust is functioning as a resource in the development of an independent, broad-based public sector coalition that will work to promote amendments to current tort legislation to lessen governmental liability.
