Workers' Compensation Program Overview
Workers' Compensation coverage through The Trust complies fully with Rhode Island State law. Membership in The Trust's Workers' Compensation Pool encompasses far more than just the payment of claims and wage reimbursement for injured employees, it also offers outstanding no-cost, value-added benefits, loss prevention tools, and a loss sensitive premium cost option.
As a Member of The Trust’s Workers’ Compensation Pool, The Trust offers Members incomparable administrative convenience and public sector expertise in the processing, handling and the prevention of workplace injuries and resulting losses.
Claims Management Services
The Trust takes full responsibility for the cost of all losses such as payments to medical providers for examinations, medical treatments, hospital stays, surgery, rehabilitation services, and other types of workers’ compensation losses that might be sustained — as well as the cost of lost wages (indemnity payments) to injured employees.
Preferred Physician Network (PPN)
To further assist Members with workers’ compensation claims, The Trust has developed an exclusive Preferred Physician Network to ensure that injured employees receive the quality care and rehabilitative assistance that will return them to full productivity as soon as possible. The Trust's PPN also incorporates a prescription drug program that eliminates the employees’ out-of-pocket expenses and the need for Members to process additional administrative paperwork.
Injured-on-Duty (IOD) Program for Public Safety Employees
In Rhode Island, public safety employees are exempt from the provisions of the Workers' Compensation Act. To assist municipal Members with this complexity, The Trust provides a public safety employee injured-on-duty management and insurance program as an automatic coverage enhancement. This unique program provides wage replacement for police officer and fire fighters injured in catastrophic situations as well as case management, aggressive subrogation, pre-employment physicals, and legal representation, if necessary. New Loss Sensitive Premium Rating Options
In addition to The Trust’s traditional guaranteed workers’ compensation premium cost plan, The Trust now offers two alternative premium rating options to help Members reduce or offset increased premium costs by taking on the risk of achieving minimal workers’ compensation losses either by way of choosing a higher deductible level or by a Retrospective Loss Sensitive Plan.
