More Pre-Placement Physical Locations Now Available

Two new facilities are now available to Members seeking to send perspective employees for Pre-Placement Physicals;  Atmed, 1524 Atwood Ave, Johnston, RI and Atmed, 5750 Post Road, East Greenwich, RI.  The Trust has worked closely with each facility to ensure that they are able to perform comprehensive and effective physical examinations for Members of The Trust’s Workers’ Compensation Program.

“It is not only important that pre-placement facilities are conveniently located for Members throughout the state, but also that they have the ability to perform the medical examination and physical functional assessment to ensure that the prospective employee can safely perform the jobs for which they are being considered,” said Shawn Baxter, Ergonomist/Loss Prevention Specialist.

Atmed has partnered with Pappas Physical Therapy in order to provide both aspects of the testing. Atmed will perform the medical exam while Pappas Physical Therapy will complete the functional assessment, which is predicated on the physical demands of the job.

The Trust has long believed in the importance of the Pre-Placement Physicals.  Requiring employees to participate in a pre-employment physical exam establishes an overall summation of a prospective employee’s medical status at the date of hire.  It also creates a medical baseline in the event of an injury or claim.

The Trust covers the cost associated with Pre-Placement Physical exams for all new full and part-time permanent prospective employees who are being hired for positions identified as “high risk” (custodian, police officer, heavy equipment operator, special education teacher, firefighter, etc.).  Pre-Placement Physicals are also recommended if and when a current employee has requested to transition to another job which has been identified as requiring increased physical demands as part of the essential job functions.

A copy of the Functional Job Description and a completed Trust Pre-Placement Medical Exam Request Form should be provided to the medical provider in advance of the appointment or accompany the applicant to the medical provider.  The Pre-Placement Medical Exam Request Form is available for download by logging in as a user at
